New Year. New Start
What an incredible day at New Year New Start – Connexions Sandwell Careers Fair at The Hawthorns!
Over 2,390 young people joined us, showing just how powerful the right support, information and inspiration can be.
From apprenticeships and college courses to university degrees and training opportunities, the fair brought future pathways together in one place — helping young people explore what’s possible after school or college.
With Connexions Sandwell careers advisers available throughout the event, young people and parents received independent careers guidance, giving them the confidence to make informed decisions about their next steps.
The event proudly supported young people aged 14–18, those who are unemployed, and young people up to 25 with an EHCP.
Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the day such a success. Together, we’re opening doors and helping young people take their next step with confidence.

Sandwell, 25 November – More than 510 attendees took part in the Sandwell SEND Careers Event held on Tuesday 25 November at The Hawthorns, bringing together young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), their families, schools, and employers for a day of inspiration, opportunity, and support. The event drew participation from over 25 schools, alongside a significant number of young SEND and NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) individuals aged up to 25. Exhibitors included local employers, training providers, colleges, specialist organisations, and community partners, each offering guidance, pathways, and practical next steps for young people preparing for adulthood. Attendees praised the event for its welcoming atmosphere and high-quality support. With hands-on activities, employability advice, and real-world career insights, the day proved to be one of the most successful SEND-focused careers opportunities held in Sandwell to date. Subat Khan from Connexions Sandwell said: “The level of engagement and enthusiasm from young people and families was incredible. Events like this show just how much potential our SEND community has, especially when given the right opportunities and support.” The event is expected to return next year, with plans already underway to expand exhibitor numbers and create even more tailored opportunities for SEND young people across the borough.
